~James has been practicing writing his name on a magnadoodle. He is getting very good. I'm not sure if he learned it at school (and they haven't mentioned it in their observation reports) or he just figured it out. I have been working with him on letters a little, but not specifically on his name. Here's a picture of his least impressive one. He has written it perfectly, which was actually the first time he even showed me. I didn't have the camera handy, unfortunately.
~Both of the kids are developing in leaps and bounds. James drew a boy (later calling it himself) on the driveway with chalk.
~Both kids truly helped make a pumpkin pie today. We all really enjoy baking, and the kids love to watch the food bake. They sit so nicely on their stools in front of the oven.
~Both James and Hannah tried their hands at raking leaves and weeding. We have some daffodil bulbs we are going to plant and we need to get the garden ready. Each of the kids took turns raking with an adult rake. We have quite a few trees in the backyard that loose their leaves. By the time I was raking, the leaves were so exciting to play in that I could barely get the leaves in a pile before they were throwing them up in the air and shouting "Happy Fall" just like Rabbit in our book about Winnie the Pooh's leaf pile.
~James' storytelling ability is getting more and more refined. He loves to tell us that he has been to places that we are going for the first time and that he did it with people who have never been here before. Almost all of his stories occurred when he was 2.
~James has found a new love in warm ("hot" as he calls it) milk before he goes bed. It really has helped him to go to bed and fall asleep pretty quickly thereafter (which is a gigantic feat these days).
~Hannah loves to help and clean up. She is becoming so capable, and just loves to be the person to be cleaning up. She will race James to do a job. She tried vacuuming her room today.
~Singing has become a major part of our family life. Hannah and James are learning many Sunday School songs and sound so stinking cute. We need to get the video camera out and get these memories imprinted. Hannah asks to have Happy Birthday sung to her at least once a day, but she is joining in on every song that is sung around her. If the song has a beat, she also claps or dances to the music too.
~James had picture day at school on Thursday. It was his first one ever, and I had just picked up some new dress clothes a couple of days earlier. His clothes are just like daddy has, which he really thinks is something terrific. I asked him if he smiled nicely for the photos (like I had asked him to do before school), and he showed me his crazy look that he gave. Here's hoping that he didn't do that and we can actually purchase a package. He has been having a hard time not being goofy in pictures as of late.
~James has been really enjoying going to school lately. His favorite thing to think about before school is what "job" he is going to get. He often will talk about his day after school if asked. He will share his "thumbs down" behaviors and who he played with and fun things they did. He learned about "Stop, drop and roll" yesterday, in preparation for his class trip to the Fire Station on Tuesday.
~Hannah had her 2 year dr's checkup recently, and did absolutely perfectly. She has been quite skittish around drs for a while, but was very compliant and energetic in the appointment this time. She was also very excited that she got to hear the baby's heartbeat while she was there, since we had back to back appointments. Of course she doesn't REALLY get it, but we talked about the "bump bump" sound our hearts make, and she was really interested in listening for it and showing us where the sound is coming from.
